The Problem

Many elderly residents face barriers to participating in community activities — not just due to unfamiliarity with digital tools, but also because they lack timely and reliable access to event information. Often, they only learn about activities after they are fully booked, as updates are shared too late or through inconsistent channels. Physical counters for in-person registration also pose limitations, as they are usually closed after office hours and on weekends, leaving seniors with few accessible alternatives.

These challenges lead to frustration, missed opportunities, and reduced participation in community life — contributing to increased social isolation and a weakened sense of belonging. During user testing, seniors shared that they often find out about events “too late” and are unable to sign up. Volunteers confirmed this, citing repeated instances where interested seniors missed out simply because they lacked timely access or digital know-how.

Our Solution

LifeJourney plans to develop a user-friendly digital kiosk solution called KakiTap which is a senior-friendly digital platform designed to help elderly residents easily discover and sign up for community activities in their neighbourhood. With a simple interface, large buttons, and clear prompts, it addresses common challenges faced by seniors—such as unfamiliarity with mobile apps, low digital confidence, and difficulty accessing event information. By offering features like event information, visual icons, and a rewards system, KakiTap not only simplifies registration but also encourages consistent participation. It empowers seniors to stay socially engaged, informed, and active—ultimately supporting their mental well-being and sense of belonging in the community.
