A pay-it-forward system that converts donations into digital food credits, redeemable across a network of participating food vendors.
The Problem
Food insecurity in Singapore affects 1 in 10 households. Despite the presence of 125 food support groups in Singapore, food assistance today for food-insecure individuals operates through predetermined meal options and centralized distribution planning, limiting the recipient of choice in food selection, timing and ultimately dignity. As a result, even among the 22% of food-insecure households who do receive help, 88% remain dissatisfied. This absence of personalized, consistent and nutritious food prevents individuals from addressing not just their physical hunger, but also their ability to achieve higher-order needs such as self-actualization.
Our Solution
Our solution addresses food insecurity by focusing on improving aid choice and donor transparency. We’ll introduce a pay-it-forward system that converts donations into digital food credits, redeemable across a network of participating food vendors. This approach increases access points, improves food variety, and restores agency to the individual.
Key points to drive adoption among stakeholders:
(1) Donors: Our solution is driven on a transparent ledger that tracks voucher usage, showing donors exactly when and how their contributions are used. This visibility reinforces trust among donors to incentivize donations.
(2) Merchants: Food merchants will receive guaranteed payouts for voucher redemption, providing them with new customers.
(3) Individuals: Recipients transform from beneficiaries to consumers with choice with increased food choices for appropriate and preferred food and timing.
