The Problem

Despite efforts by the community, youth volunteer engagement in Singapore remains low. Many youths express interest in contributing to community causes, yet few take concrete action, which a gap driven by several key barriers:

• Lack of relevance: Volunteering efforts often feel top-down or disconnected from what youths care about. Many are more motivated by causes that are personally meaningful or directly linked to their neighbourhoods.

• Information gap: Youths often do not know what community issues exist around them or how to get involved. Volunteering opportunities are scattered across different platforms, making access confusing and uninviting.

• Limited ownership: Even when real problems are surfaced (e.g. via OneService or town councils), youths lack a clear and supported pathway to act on them.

These challenges lead to untapped potential and missed opportunities for youths to contribute meaningfully to local change.

Our Solution

Coddi is a centralised, youth-centric volunteering platform that empowers youths to discover, initiate and act on hyperlocal community issues through intuitive and meaningful engagement.

Key Features:

• Location-Based Customisation: Youths input their postal code or select a nearby CC to receive tailored updates, volunteering opportunities and issues relevant to their area.

• Swipe-Based Discovery: A Tinder-style interface lets users swipe through bite-sized volunteering opportunities, saving or skipping with ease, making discovery frictionless and engaging.

• Community Issue Board: Real problems (e.g. elderly isolation, littering, low recycling rates) sourced from platforms like OneService are displayed as action triggers, bridging awareness and participation.

• Propose-Your-Own Initiatives: Youths can propose small-scale projects (e.g. donation drives, awareness campaigns) based on these issues, with planning templates, mentorship or CC endorsement.

This platform reframes youths not just as volunteers, but as local changemakers. It streamlines discovery, deepens relevance and fosters agency. This transforms community issues from passive observations into real action.

By closing the engagement loop between interest, access and action, the platform aims to build a more responsive, youth-empowered volunteering ecosystem grounded in the needs of local communities.
